Title : Public participation in procurement process to reduce corruption
Description : The Financial Express August 20, 2010 Planning Minister Air Vice- Marshal (retd) AK Khandaker Thursday urged all concerned for suggesting policy guidelines in formulating mechanism to involve citizens in the public procurement process to reduce corruption and ensure sustainable development, reports BSS. He said participation of stakeholders and beneficiaries in the procurement system should be ensured in establishing accountability of all parties in order to institutionalise transparency in the expenditure of public funds. The minister said this while presiding over the second meeting of the Public- Private Stakeholders Committee (PPSC), a high-level platform to discuss various aspects of public procurement, at the NEC conference room in the city. The Institute of Governance Studies (IGS) organised the meeting on behalf of the Central Procurement Technical Unit (CPTU) of the Implementation, Monitoring and Evaluation Department (IMED). Planning Secretary Md Habib Ullah Majumder, IMED Secretary Md Abdul Malek spoke at the meeting. Member secretary of the committee and Director General of CPTU Amulya Kumar Debnath moderated the meeting. Research Associate of IGS Munyema Hasan presented a paper at the meeting highlighting civic involvement in public procurement citing some cases of developing countries like Philippines and India.
