As part of a government decision to introduce electronic government procurement (e-GP) across all procuring entities in the country by December 2016, the Central Procurement Technical Unit (CPTU) of Implementation Monitoring & Evaluation Division, Ministry of Planning, signed a contract on June 1, 2016 with a joint venture of the Thakral Information Systems Private Limited and the Shark Limited for supply, installation and commissioning of a New Data Centre and a Mirror Data Centre.
The new wider-capacity Data Centre is expected to be established at the National Data Centre of the Bangladesh Computer Council (BCC) by September 2016. The mirror Data Centre will be set up at CPTU. The CPTU is implementing e-GP with support from the World Bank.
Secretary of IMED Farid Uddin Ahmed Chowdhury, Additional Secretary and Director General Shefaul Alam of IMED, Additional Secretary and DG of CPTU Md Faruque Hossain, Lead Procurement Specialist of World Bank Dr Zafrul Islam, Chief Executive Officer of Thakral Information Systems Private Limited Basab Bagchi, FCA, and Manager Operation Md Riaj Uddin of the Shark Limited and CPTU, IMED officials were present on the occasion of signing of the contract at CPTU conference room.
Through this Data centre the CPTU will bring all procuring entities under e-GP system. The joint venture of the Thakral Information Systems Private Limited, a Singapore-based IT firm and the Shark Limited, a local firm, that won the contract through a competitive tender will provide post-installation services for five years.
The IMED Secretary said that the government wants quick implementation of e-GP in the country. He requested all concerned to achieve the target set for this. The DG, CPTU said, “Thakral has joined us through this contract to help the government achieve a national objective.” He expressed hope for a very good working relationship and said CPTU expects sincere delivery by the firm. Dr Zafrul Islam of WB expressed his satisfaction over signing of the contract.
Up to June 1, 2016 a total of 21 thousand 729 tenderers registered with the e-GP (www.eprocure.gov.bd) system and the number of procuring entities registered with it till the date is 2443. There are about 25,000 (twenty-five thousand) procuring entities under 1233 agencies of the government. The approximate number of tenderers in the country is about one lakh 30 thousand. |
