The ninth meeting of the Public-Private Stakeholders’ Committee (PPSC) on public procurement, which was earlier scheduled for January 7, 2016, will now be held on February 4, 2016.
A H M Mustafa Kamal, Honourable Minister for Planning and Chairperson of the PPSC, is expected to open and preside over the meeting at 11am at the Conference room of the NEC on the Planning Commission campus.
The 43-member PPSC has been formed with representatives from business community, think-tanks, and civil society organizations along with government officials, to institutionalize external monitoring and citizen engagement in different stages of public procurement.
The BRAC Institute for Development and Governance (BIGD), working as the Social Accountability Consultant under the PPRP-II being implemented by the Central Procurement Technical Unit (CPTU) of IMED, Ministry of Planning, will organize and facilitate the meeting.
The CPTU is implementing PPRP-II with support from the World Bank.
The terms of reference of the PPSC include giving suggestions to the government in improving public procurement practices, including amendments to primary and secondary legislations, where necessary; providing policy inputs for best utilization of public funds and delivery of public services and providing recommendations to the government about engagement of private sector stakeholders (third parties) in processing and implementation of public procurement in order to ensure transparency and accountability. |
