Title : CPTU conducts workshop on social engagement and messaging
Description : November 21, 2015 The necessity of communicating benefits of reforms in public procurement, especially electronic government procurement (e-GP) is vital for improving governance and public service delivery in the procurement of goods, works and services across the government. Speakers at a workshop titled “Social engagement and messaging” made such observations. The Central Procurement Technical Unit (CPTU) of the Implementation Monitoring and Evaluation Division under the Ministry of Planning organized the workshop at a hotel in Srimongal, Sylhet on November 20-21, 2015 to validate and finalize drafts of various messages for print, electronic , online and social media about public procurement, e-GP etc. Facilitated by the Bangladesh Centre for Communication Programs (BCCP), the workshop brought together about 30 representatives from government procuring entities, tenderers, civil society and media personalities and officials of the CPTU and the World Bank. Director General of CPTU Md Faruque Hossain inaugurated the workshop, while Lead Procurement Specialist of the World Bank Dr Zafrul Islam spoke at the inaugural session of the two-day workshop as special guest. Yasmin Khan, Team Leader of Social Awareness Campaign under the Public Procurement Reform Project-II supported by the World Bank, Deputy Team Leader Khadiza Bilkis, and Meher Afroze moderated various sessions of the workshop on the first day. DG, CPTU Faruk Hossain said, “We will disseminate the message through various channels of communications. The messages should be made communicative so that tenderers and other stakeholders can understand these easily.” The effective messages about electronic government procurement (e-GP) should be given to all, he added. Underlining the need for properly designing messages and tools of communications for yielding better benefits of government procurement reforms, Dr Zafrul Islam said, “This is very urgent to make the stakeholders - tenderers and other parties - understand how the reforms have been made to ensure transparency in public procurement and also how it benefit all concerned through effective development efforts.”
