Orientation for journalists about public procurement begins
A one-day orientation training for journalists about public procurement under the auspices of the Component 1 of the Public Procurement Reform Project-II, being implemented by Central Procurement Technical Unit (CPTU), began at the Press Institute of Bangladesh (PIB) on September 8, 2015, Tuesday.
The objective of the orientation is to acquaint journalists with the process and procedures of public procurement issues so that they can have a better understanding on the subject to write accurate and objective reports with a view to supporting development goals of the government through raising awareness among the public.
A total of 25 journalists from print, electronic and online media took part in the orientation covering Public Procurement Act 2006, Public Procurement Rules 2008 with their amendments, Public Procurement Ethics, e-GP, Procurement Methods, Process, Complaints and Appeals, Accountability etc.
Twenty such one-day training sessions for 25 journalists in each batch will be conducted by the PIB with support from CPTU under the component one of the PPRP-II in eighteen-month period. The component deals with institutionalization and professionalization of capacity in public procurement.
Under the Component One of the PPRP-II supported by World Bank a total of 18 types of training courses of various duration, have been designed for different stakeholders of public procurement.
In the closing ceremony of the first orientation session for journalists Information Minister Hasanul Haque Inu was present as Chief Guest, Secretary of IME Division Md Shahid Ullah khandaker, Lead Procurement Specialist of WB Dr Zafrul Islam attended the programme as Special Guests. Director General of CPTU Faruque Hossain, DG of PIB Shah Alamgir, Team Leader of Procurement Capacity Development Team, were also present with Golam Sarwar, Chairman of PIB Trustee Board and Editor of Bangla daily Samakal, in the chair. |
