Title : Dialogue to help improve quality of procurement
Description : December 8, 2011 Open dialogues between the procurement officials and the members of the bidding community can help the government ensure quality in the procurement of goods, works and services. This will also remove any misunderstanding and information gaps between them. Such observations were made by the participants in the first-ever dialogue on public procurement held at the conference hall of LGED at Narayanganj Sadar on Thursday. The Central Procurement Technical Unit (CPTU) of the Ministry of Planning organized the dialogue under the Public Procurement Reform Project-II supported by the World Bank. The dialogue was facilitated by Bangladesh Centre for Communication Programmes (BCCP). The participants expressed the view that such discussions between the procuring entities and the bidders will play an effective role in ensuring efficiency, transparency, accountability and equal treatment to all in the process of public procurement. A total of 21 bidders in the district and 16 officials from different procuring entities took part in the dialogue at Narayanganj. An 11-member ad-hoc convening body was formed at the programme with Ali Hossain Chowdhury, Executive Engineer of LGED, Narayanganj, as its convener for the period of December 2011 and June 2012. The forum will sit once in every two months to discuss procurement related issues in the district. Six more forums under six divisions will also be formed soon. Director of CPTU Md Aziz Taher Khan gave welcome address at the dialogue at Narayanganj while it was facilitated by Deputy Director of BCCP Khadiza Bilkis and Program Manager Meher Afroze. The Kroi Sanglap Forum is now open for inclusion of the procuring entities and registered bidders of Narayanganj district.
